ST ALDHELMS ‘A’ 0
On a dreadful afternoon for football (wet & windy), we
travelled to
For the second successive week, we had a full squad of 15
players to choose from and this was to prove decisive.
A solid start saw us create a few half chances during the
first 35 minutes whilst in goal Craig Francis was rarely troubled. In the
greasy conditions Craig’s handling of the ball was excellent throughout the
game. Any openings that were created were quickly dealt with by the speed of
sweeper James Hurrell Smith.
At half time we were happy to be drawing 0 – 0 and
certainly in control of the game.
The second half saw the game open up a little more as
defences became a little stretched. Our two wingers Reece Tucker and Kyle
Curtis both saw more of the ball and began to make more impact down both
flanks. An early chance for Kyle in the second half saw the ball just go wide
of the post whilst further good defending, including some well timed tackles by
central defender James Boulton kept the back door
firmly shut. Even when a half volley by St Aldhelms
forward flashed across our six yard box the ball ended up safely behind for a
goal kick.
With fifteen minutes to go, a double change brought about
a change of luck and lead to the only goal of the game. Some good link up play
in our midfield from Oli Randall saw Reece Tucker fly
down the right wing once more and his pass into the path of Mo Bouaziz opened
up their defence. With good control his shot beat their keeper and we took the
lead with five minutes to go. A well deserved lead which we kept until the
final whistle for our first points of the season.
It truly was a great victory with such hard work from every player. The Man of the Match award once again proved difficult but was deservedly awarded to Reece Tucker who showed such improvement and discipline in right midfield role.
